Roy H. Spencer

Roy Harris Spencer, cherished husband, father, brother, grandfather, and veteran, passed away softly on Wednesday, April 29th. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends.

Roy was born in Wheatland, Iowa, on July 8, 1940, graduating from Wheatland High School in 1958. His military service began as a member of the ROTC while attending the University of Iowa, where he graduated in 1962, majoring in Russian studies. Upon graduation, Roy served as a Captain in the United States Marine Corps, where he was stationed in Korea and Vietnam until he was discharged in 1965.

Later that year, Roy met his beloved wife, Judith Anne Spencer (Grunewald). They were married in 1967, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Roy eventually settled in Clinton, Iowa, where he had a long, successful career working at The AC Neilsen Company, which included multiple relocations to El Paso, Texas, and PFC (Promotion Fulfillment) in Camanche, Iowa, where he ultimately retired in the early 2000’s.

Roy and Judy were blessed with three boys: Scott (Fenton, Missouri), Paul (Sussex, Wisconsin), and Dan (Chicago, Illinois). Roy’s passion and focus was always his family. He cared deeply about his family and provided unwavering support and love, especially as a father and grandfather.

Survivors include his three sons and their extended families: Scott (Jennifer) and their two daughters, Kendall and Taylor, Paul (Tricia) and their son, Ryan and daughter, Lauren, and Dan (Nancy) and their daughter Sofia and twin sons, Max and Mateo. Roy was preceded in death by his wife, Judy, his parents, Millard (“Dick”) and Eunice Spencer, his sister, Roxanna Spencer, and his brother, Reid Spencer.

Services in celebration of Roy’s life will be on Tuesday, May 5th, from 4-6 pm at Weerts Funeral Home (3625 Jersey Ridge Rd), Kimberly at Jersey Ridge Road, Davenport, Iowa. Online condolences may be expressed to the Spencer family by visiting Roy’s obituary at www.WeertsFH.com.
