Paul J. Haussman

January 6, 1949 — September 7, 2025

Paul John Haussman was born January 6, 1949, and was born to eternal life September 7, 2025. His parents, Dora and Marshall Haussman, settled in Butler, where they enjoyed many friends and neighbors. His summers were spent working with cousins on the family farms in western Minnesota and South Dakota, which he enjoyed very much.

Paul had his Master of Science in Urban Affairs from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, where he met his wife, Marie, while looking for girls to invite to his fraternity party. Naturally, Paul was the Social Director. They were married June 15, 1974, and enjoyed 51 years together. Paul was also a PHD Candidate at UWM.

His pride and joy, Adam Paul, was born February 15, 1977.

Paul worked for the Center for Consumer Affairs in the Outreach Division of UWM and his creativity and initiative led to the Center offering continuing education programs on home buying, tax preparation, funeral planning, teaching consumer education, improving customer service in government, retirement planning, basic consumer skills for middle and high school students, and many more. He was often called upon to investigate various industries by Senate Subcommittees that were concerned about consumers being taken advantage of. His first assignment in 1975 was investigating Nursing Homes in Wisconsin, which took him a year to accomplish while periodically flying back to Washington D.C. to report his findings. Many new laws were passed as a result, specifying the treatment of the elderly in long-term care facilities. After investigating the Automobile Industry, the Lemon Law was created.

Paul enjoyed family and a large group of friends over the years. He created a football pool that continues to this day, whose participants are all over the Country and stay connected by their love of football and camaraderie.

Paul enjoyed life very much, whether skiing out West with Adam or in the Midwest with his family and friends. He sailed an E-Boat with friends on Pewaukee Lake, and he and Marie enjoyed various sailing trips in the Caribbean. The family also enjoyed trips to Europe, Mexico, and Canada, as well as many parts of the US.

Paul also enjoyed work very much. In addition to his job at the University, he created Light Ideas in 1983, a company that sells table lighting and Chafing Fuel to Restaurants, Hotels, and Caterers. Marie later expanded it to include decorating and, often, remodeling Long Term Care Facilities, mostly in the Midwest.

His many friends and co-workers talk fondly about how Paul liked to inject fun into working and about his unconditional friendship.

Paul is survived by his wife, Marie, son Adam, daughter-in-law Mary, and his many beloved friends and family members.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
