Margaret M. Kasun

Margaret Mary Kasun

Our beloved Peg, granted final peace on August 5th, 2026.

The premature loss of Peg leaves a deep void for the many people she loved and inspired. Her husband Phil, and her kids Andy, Hannah, and Nick will miss her joyfulness, her infectious laughter, and her dedication to a family filled with love. Siblings Kathy Naylor, Terry Peterson and John, Mark and Matt Ostrander will miss their “baby” sister’s musical talents, humor, compassion, and tenderness. Peg’s passing is preceded only by her parents, Joseph and Rose Ostrander.

Peg touched and inspired many as a music therapist, teacher, accompanist, director, composer, mentor, and friend. She improved the lives of all those she worked with at St. Mary's Hill Hospital, Our Lady of Lourdes (26 years), St. Gregory the Great, Prairie Hill Waldorf School, Alverno College, and St. Charles. For more than 35 years, Peg helped musicians and singers of all ages to find their voice and to confidently develop and employ their given gifts to make music, share joy, and praise God.

Peg will also be missed for her natural understanding of the art of communicating, especially through music. She had a rare intuitive ability to share the gifts of love, healing, guidance, and compassion through the instruments she played and songs she wrote, and to inspire others to develop and share their musical gifts. Peg found particular joy in working with children, instilling a love of music from a young age through children's choirs at St. Charles and St. Gregory the Great and chorus classes at Prairie Hill. The many people she inspired and taught will carry her love of music forward.

Peg's love for music was second only to her love for her family. For Phil, Peg was not only a wife, but a confidant, counselor, coach, fun-loving travel buddy, and advocate - a kindred spirit. For Andy, Hannah and Nick, her love, dedication and compassion instilled joy and fairness, independence and devotion, wonder and trueness. Along with her penchant for playing cribbage, her use of humorous sounds and made up words will be cherished as long as her favorite flower, sunflowers, cast hope and a smile.

With love, laughter, and music, Peg created bonds for us, bonds that time cannot break. Instead, it is our hearts that are broken with the absence of a person who was as beautiful inside as she was on the outside. For anyone that knew Peg, a void will never be filled and she shall be forever missed.

In lieu of flowers, please carry forward, in your own way, Peg's legacy, the values she embodied, and the lessons she shared. Consider donating to causes she believed in, singing her music, telling stories of her, and making music with joy and in community with others.

Any funds gifted to the family will be forwarded to help those affected by pancreatic cancer.

A final celebration of Peg’s life and legacy will be held Saturday, Aug 29th at Our Lady of Lourdes (OLOL), 3722 S 58th St, MKE, WI 53220.

There will be a 9:30 am Visitation and an 11:00 am Memorial Mass. There will be a 12:30 pm luncheon at OLOL in the parish hall for fellowship and remembrances.

Peg will be interred at a later date at LaBelle Cemetery in Oconomowoc, WI.
