Judith A. Troyk

August 25, 1939 — July 18, 2024

“I Won!!!” Those were the words her family heard on the phone in 2002 when Judy Troyk learned of her election to the post of Taylor County Supervisor. The only problem was, that our humble Judy never told us that she was running. We imagine she said those same words, July 18, 2024, as she surprised us with her crossing the finish line to eternal life. (We had no clue she was that close.)

Born Judith Straub in August of 1939 to George and Naida Straub of Rib Lake, she was an overcomer from the start. She battled both Scarlet Fever and Rheumatic Fever concurrently- while her 4 siblings and father remained quarantined outside of the home, and her mother cared for her.

Always up for a challenge, she left Rib Lake in her late teens and joined her siblings in the “big city” of Milwaukee where she met her soon-to-be husband, Howard Troyk. They went on to have 3 children; Debbie (nee Troyk) English - married to Joel, Howard Troyk – married to Julie, and Scott Troyk – married to Kim. They have been blessed by multiple grandchildren, greatgrandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

She had a ‘can do’ spirit that allowed her to not only become politically active later in life, but also open her own craft business. She was elected as Regional Office President for the NAAA in 2004 (representing 12 cities and 4 tribes). That same year, she was appointed to WAAA for the State and the WI State Commission for the Bureau of Aging & Disability Resources Advisory Council. From 2004-2006 she was appointed to the State Leadership Council and asked to help redesign the Aging Network. She was very proud to have been appointed to the Taylor County Committee On Aging and then for her work when appointed to the ADRC. All of this she did while caring for a husband with Alzheimer’s.

She believed in preserving our future by living conservatively today and was a practical woman who could repair whatever seemed to need fixing around the house, while at the same time canning her own produce and sharing with others whatever she had. She especially loved family gatherings at Harper Lake and will be dearly missed by those in all of the communities in which lived over the years.

She was welcomed into heaven by her husband, parents, sister and brother, in-laws, and many others who loved her while she was here with us.
