Tuesday morning, September 3, 2024, we lost the earthly body of the most wonderful, loving, sassy and fun woman who we call Mother, Grandmother, Aunt and Friend, Judith “Judy” E. Markus.
Judy was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on October 28, 1938, the daughter of Edson J. and Dorothy I. (Meyer) Palmer.
Judy is joining in the light, her beloved husband and soulmate, Warren Markus, who preceded her in death, as well as her sister, parents, many wonderful friends, and all the beautiful souls in heaven.
She leaves behind so many of us who drank in her lightness, gentle direction, laughter, and love like wine. We will struggle, for a while, because of our grief, to find new ways to see and feel her all around us. But she is there- we only have to open our hearts, and she will fill them as always.
A picnic gathering in the sun to celebrate Judy’s life will be held at Esther Park (WI- 2802 Waunona Way, Lake Monona) Sunday, September 8, 2024, beginning at 2:00 pm. There is a beach, as well, if anyone fancies jumping in the water.
Do not stand at my grave and weep I am not there.
I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning's hush I am the swift uplifting rush Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not stand at my grave and cry; I am not there.
I did not die.
