Jess Gene Janke was born in Milwaukee on October 5, 1938, to Dorothy and William Janke.
At age 10, he moved to Hartland with his Mom, stepdad Leonard Deja, and two older sisters, Karen and Jan. Jess loved life in Hartland, living there nearly 65 of his 86 years. He married Karen Nicholson on August 7, 1965, and together they shared many adventures, including motorcycle trips, travel, biking, hiking, and cross-country skiing. Jess was a skilled handyman and, with help, put up the backyard gazebo where he loved to relax with a book or newspaper. Jess had a wonderful sense of humor, which he maintained through his stay at AngelsGrace. In retirement, Jess bought a 1931 Model A, “Henry”, who became the preferred method of going out for ice cream and coffee. He spent much of his work life as an electrical technician for General Electric. Jess also spent many years as a volunteer firefighter in Hartland.
A Celebration of Jess’ Life will be held from 12:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 13, 2025, at the American Legion, 231 Goodwin Avenue in Hartland.
