Where does one begin…Bev was simply amazing. Bev radiated positivity with her amazing spirit, deep faith, and abundant love, and was looking forward to her next journey in Heaven. At the age of ninety-seven, Bev passed peacefully on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, and Heaven gained an angel. Oh, how glorious that homecoming must have been.
Bev was born in a farmhouse in Batavia, WI to Inez Clara (Melius) Bies and Theodore Harry Bies. After her mother’s death when she was only an infant, she was raised by Theodore and Myrtle (Serres) Bies in Merton, WI. Bev often reminisced about working at her father’s hardware store in Merton.
On February 12, 1955, Bev married Joseph Anthony Cull. They shared sixty-five years of marriage until Joe’s passing in May 2020.
Bev sought to continuously learn throughout her life and encouraged others to always approach life with curiosity. Whether reading books, living her faith generously, asking questions to better understand, experimenting with new foods, or writing all over pages of books and sending her “famous” letters, she enjoyed knowledge. Her lengthy education journey began at Merton Elementary School and Hartland High School. She went on to graduate from the Wisconsin State Teacher’s College in Milwaukee and attended Ohio State University for a period which all instilled a love of teaching and service. Marriage was not on her radar until after she had received her education and traveled. She began teaching in the 1950’s at the Southern Wisconsin Colony and Training School (now the Southern Wisconsin Center), serving people with disabilities at a time when many people shied away. She taught Special Needs students in the Hartland School District and at Fairview South in Brookfield for years until she retired. Bev also found joy in selling wedding invitations to hundreds of couples for over fifty years.
Bev was a pioneer woman who pursued higher education and traveling when it was considered taboo in society for women. One example of Bev’s travels took place on the ship Columbia for her big trip sailing from Montreal/Quebec on June 26, 1952, bound for Bremerhaven via Cherbourg and South Hampton. We remember her telling us that when she traveled across the U.S. in a car with a girlfriend they were stopped by men at gas stations explaining to them that single women were not to travel alone. Bev lived fully, loved deeply, and gave generously of herself, never asking for anything in return. She also found passion for fun within her own home. She enjoyed daily journaling, Bridge, coloring, kaleidoscopes, kites, the rhyming game “Hink Pink,” baking, spending time on her deck and making her famous birthday calls.
Bev is survived by her children: Mary (Ralph) Westenberg, David (Renee’) Cull, Joseph (Margaret) Cull, Charles (Tammi) Cull; her grandchildren: Amy (Neil) O’Mara, David (Tricia) Cull, Christian (Jamie) Westenberg, Daniel (Kaycee) Cull, Alexandria (Peter) Cull Weatherer, Brandt Cull, Ciarra Cull, Ashtyn Cull, Bennett Cull and Camden Cull; her great grandchildren Karlee (Sam) Schmidtke, David G Cull Jr., Arora Westenberg, Leona Westenberg, Malachias Cull, Mateo Cull-Valenciana; great-great grandchildren Emberly Westenberg, Theo Stevenson; and her loving sister Jean (Ernie) Audley.
Bev is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Cull, parents Inez Bies, Theodore Bies and Myrtle Bies, and her grandson Patrick May.
A private family burial will take place at Saint Charles Cemetery in Hartland.
In lieu of sending flowers, we invite all who knew Bev to perform a random act of kindness.
Family and Friends are encouraged to attend a Celebration of Life to honor her amazing life on June 29, 2025, from 12:00-5:00 p.m. at her home.
Bev loved her family, and friends became family. She touched and changed thousands of people’s lives, and we were blessed to call her “ours.” Bev always chose joy, no matter the circumstances. To know Bev was to love Bev.
Stay Beautiful.
