Bernard Casey Laughlin was born on August 20, 1952 to Martha and Jack Laughlin, the sixth of six kids. Pittsville would never be the same. Bernie was a joy salesman. No matter the time of year, the weather or state of world affairs, Bernie could find something to be happy about. His joy was contagious!
Bernie attended Special Ed classes at Pittsville Elementary and moved on to the high school where he was voted “Fan of the Year” for the ’06 Girls’ Hoops team…his proudest moment!
After school he and his brother, Marshall took a job for the Marshfield News Herald delivering papers in Pittsville. Their route grew to 73 papers delivered by hand, each one to the placement specification of the customer, and accompanied by a smile and a positive comment. (There’s that JOY!)
In the absence of a drivers license, Bernie’s mode of communication was the telephone. Whenever he wanted to hear someone’s voice, he called. His calls were short (2 minutes or less) and always ended with, “Well, OK! I’ll let you go now!
Bernie will be deeply missed by his loving family, including his sisters, Jean (Dan) Heinz and Mary Hobert; his brothers, Dr. John (Judy) Laughlin and Marshall Laughlin; and many cherished nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister Rosanne and his brother-in-law, Tag Hobert who now welcome him in heaven along with his niece Sarah Laughlin (Rob Fries).
He is survived by his nephews John (Madelyn) Laughlin, Patrick (Debbie) Hamill, Kevin (Amy) Hobert, Timothy (Jill) Hobert, Daniel (Marie) Hobert and Michael (Elaine) Hobert, as well as his niece Becca Laughlin (Jason Nefs).
Bernie also leaves behind many grand and great-grand nieces and nephews, along with countless dear friends, too many to name but all deeply touched by his life.
Bernie’s funeral will be held at St. Joachim’s Church in Pittsville, WI on Saturday, April 25. Visitation will be at 10:00 am with a Mass at 11:00, followed by burial at St. Joachim’s Cemetery and a luncheon at the church, 5312 Third Avenue Pittsville.
A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Teresa of Calcutta church, North Lake, WI at a later date, TBD
