James Elmon Godsey

March 19, 1933 — June 18, 2022

We mourn the passing of James Elmon Godsey, born to Robert Peyton and Gladys (née Miller) Godsey on March 19th,1933. He was a man of myriad talent and quiet heart,

Jim, as he was known in Amberg, WI — though also known as Godsey, James, and Elmon… depending on geography — shared his many talents everywhere among his neighbors and friends, wherever he settled.

Jim is survived by 7 children, 4 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. Many friends also know sorrow at his passing, as well as their own children and grandchildren. Jim touched each generation with his kindness and sass. This family would especially like to recognize Joan, Allen and Linda for their presence and support of Jim as he began to decline. To try to explain the significance of their friendship would be futile; there are not words.

Jim began life in KY, but lived that life all over the globe, first through his military service in the Navy, then in OH and WI as his children grew and began lives of their own. He was, for many years, an electrician at AOSmith in Milwaukee.

Upon retirement, Jim settled in Amberg on a tiny patch of dirt stuck to the side of a hill. Not much, but it was home. From there, he would travel, winters, in warmer climes. But always, coming home.

On June 18th, 2022, Jim went Home for the last time.
It comforts me to think that his mom met him at the Gate.
